Abstract In this paper, a bioinspired neural model for detecting object motion based on retina computational machanism is proposed based on synthesizing representative works on modeling retina and incorporating some latest findings on retina mechanisms. To understand more in-depth the retina machanism of motion detection, the spatio-temporal properties of each type of neurons in the retina motion pathway are then mathematically analyzed. And then a set of experiments and quantitative analysis of the experimental results are accomplished for assessing the model performance on motion detection. Experimental results show the effectiveness of this proposed model on detecting object motion. Index Terms retina neural mechanism, retina neural network, object motion detection, computational model.

STRUCTURAL DAMAGE DETECTION BY MODEL UPDATING METHOD BASED ON CASCADE FEED-FORWARD NEURAL NETWORK AS AN EFFICIENT APPROXIMATION MECHANISM

Vibration based techniques of structural damage detection using model updating method, are computationally expensive for large-scale structures. In this study, after locating precisely the eventual damage of a structure using modal strain energy based index (MSEBI), To efficiently reduce the computational cost of model updating during the optimization process of damage severity detection, the M...

A Hybrid Neural Network Approach for Kinematic Modeling of a Novel 6-UPS Parallel Human-Like Mastication Robot

Introduction we aimed to introduce a 6-universal-prismatic-spherical (UPS) parallel mechanism for the human jaw motion and theoretically evaluate its kinematic problem. We proposed a strategy to provide a fast and accurate solution to the kinematic problem. The proposed strategy could accelerate the process of solution-finding for the direct kinematic problem by reducing the number of required ...

Passive Non-Prehensile Manipulation of a Specific Object on Predictable Helix Path Based on Mechanical Intelligence

Object manipulation techniques in robotics can be categorized in two major groups including manipulation with and without grasp. The aim of this paper is to develop an object manipulation method where in addition to being grasp-less, the manipulation task is done in a passive approach. In this method, linear and angular positions of the object are changed and its manipulation path is controlled...

Invariant Global Motion Recognition in the Dorsal Visual System: A Unifying Theory

The motion of an object (such as a wheel rotating) is seen as consistent independent of its position and size on the retina. Neurons in higher cortical visual areas respond to these global motion stimuli invariantly, but neurons in early cortical areas with small receptive fields cannot represent this motion, not only because of the aperture problem but also because they do not have invariant r...

Does the brain de-jitter retinal images?

A s anyone who has taken a photograph with shaky hands can attest, camera movement creates image blur. Because photosensors must integrate over a finite interval to acquire a noise-free image, any motion that occurs during that interval will blur over the spatial details of an object by the amount of space traversed (Fig. 1). This simple fact creates headaches for engineers designing scientific...
